There is time to tell you, and little more to give My life has been a forfeit, for the lives I’ve yet to live. The gateways have been opened, the tongues have all been loosed The passages stand empty that soon will be put to use. The future we establish has always been our past The words we felt important we thought were built to last.   We strive and test, we “try our best” The beast within us beat its chest.   I’ve traveled far for you to meet, this missive will explain Because the Arrow gone awry will turn right back again. The books we wrote to save you have all been quite erased The writings have been all forgot, the ties have been unlaced. But in places, high and low, the knowledge is still yet to know Don’t be afraid to face the truth, nor let the ill winds blow   The beast within will beat its chest The east fights north, the south the west.   A prophecy you seek, I say? I speak one now, and then? Would you embark on whim or lark? Or would you then ask “When?” A sign of faith, a bit of light, the brightest day and darkest night The promise of an ancient sage, the deepest wrong must be set right. But trivial as this all may seem, the way is clear, the goal supreme Must be to bring the knowledge back and stop the Prism’s Dream.   You cannot mean to lose your way We have but Time to sing and play.   Is this beginning? Is this the end? On your perspective, it depends For many are the roads away, yet to this place they always wend. The coins of wrath are minted, true value made the price On forge and table, tool and vice, the wars will peace give sacrifice Your call for signs is heard beyond The answers heretofore thus sound   Walk the path less traveled. Eat the feast prepared. Leave the weave unraveled. Cheat the challenged dared. Open doors yet locked and barred. Make defense and prepare the ward. Etch the mark on glass unmarred.   Try your best and beat your chest. Offer help to east and west.   Now you know the course to take Yet you may have missed the way Could you cause a greater wake On pools of night or day? Seek therefore the ancient ways.   I’ve given what you asked for now. There’s nothing left to tell The daylight’s passed, the night now falls, upon the bleak Farthfell A new kingdom in the south has risen from the Ash The west will face its Daemon, the east will feel the Clash The North has closed its borders, the storms there take a toll The oceans rise up once again, again the Thunders roll

Historical Details

History

Now found in nearly every library of Nycos, this document first was uncovered by the ill-fated crew of the Borealis, ten days out of Eldrassar, in the Blackwater of the Tween Sea.

Public Reaction

Despited initial furor as it was the first prophetic work of the NOW, it has since laid fallow, virtually unresearched. No one knows its origin or in-story author or relevance. Only the obvious wordplay in the last few stanzas has been noted.

Term

Copies are now maintained by local scribes, but the original was thought lost in the Blackwater Crossing of the Borealis.
