Tear of Deemeter

Staff

Legendary Spellcaster Requires Attunement

Lore:

This small, light-blue crystal is unnaturally smooth, its surface untouched by mortal tools, and it remains impossibly cold to the touch. The crystal is rumored to be a tear shed by Deemeter, the goddess of ice and cold, when she descended to the mortal plane over six centuries ago.

The goddess wept for a magical tree that had endured her unrelenting winters and snowstorms for more than a thousand years. The tree, a miraculous hybrid of wood and crystal, stood in the harsh northern lands where cold reigned eternal. Over centuries, it had absorbed the magic of the land, growing into a beautiful and otherworldly being. When the people of the region cut the tree down for its unique bark—driven by greed or desperation—Deemeter mourned its loss with bitter sorrow. Her grief and wrath manifested as a devastating winter that lasted an entire year, freezing the land and claiming the lives of many who had once sought to exploit the tree.

The crystal, now known as the Tear of Deemeter, was discovered by those who came to revere the goddess and seek her favor. Believing it to be a sacred relic, they crafted the crystal into a magnificent staff. Its form mirrors the beauty of ice and snow, adorned with frost-like vines and delicate snow-petal patterns, as though winter itself had guided the hands of its makers. This staff became a symbol of devotion to Deemeter, a conduit of her divine power, and a reminder of both her grief and her wrath.

Staff Description:

The Tear of Deemeter is an elegant and otherworldly staff crafted to resemble the beauty and harshness of ice and snow. The shaft of the staff appears to be formed from an unmelting, translucent ice crystal with subtle veins of pale blue running through it, as if the cold itself has been frozen into its structure. The surface is unnaturally smooth, gleaming with a faint, frosted shimmer.

At the top of the staff, a small irregularly-shaped, light blue crystal rests, glowing faintly from within like captured moonlight. The crystal appears frozen in time, unnaturally tough, and is encased in elegant spirals of icy vines and snow-petal-like motifs, all formed from the same enchanted ice. These intricate details resemble frost forming on a windowpane, delicate but unbreakable.
The bottom of the staff tapers to a sharp, crystalline point that looks both ornamental and functional, like a shard of solid frost.

When the staff is moved or activated, a faint, frosty mist swirls briefly in the air, dissipating quickly into the surroundings. This ephemeral vapor is a subtle reminder of the staff's connection to Deemeter, goddess of ice and cold, leaving a chill in the air with each motion.

Colors: Pale blue, white, and silvery hues dominate the design, with faint, glowing blue light emanating from the runes and crystal. The staff emits a cold, ethereal aura, as if it lowers the temperature of the air around it.

Frost Crown:
As an action, a frozen crown appears on your head with intricate motifs resembling vines. You gain a share of the knowledge of the goddess Deemeter, increasing your Intelligence to 24 and granting you 30 temporary hit points for 10 minutes. While you wear the crown, you can use the "Eyes of the Ice Queen" ability.

Eyes of the Ice Queen:
As an action, you can gaze upon a creature you see within 120 feet of you with the wrathful eyes of the goddess. Your eyes emit powerful cold waves toward the creature, dealing 6d6 + your spellcasting ability modifier cold damage and freezing it in place (Restrained) until the end of its next turn. On a successful Dexterity saving throw, the creature takes only half damage and is not frozen.

Ice Tree Crysalith:
As an action, you summon an icy image of the tree "Crysalith," beloved by the goddess. In a 300-foot radius, choose a 10-foot square on the ground to summon the tree. Each creature within a 25-foot radius and 60-foot tall cylinder takes 5d10 cold damage and is Restrained until the end of the spell or until freed. A creature can make a Dexterity saving throw, taking half damage on a success and avoiding the restrained condition. Creatures in the center squares of the tree make this save with disadvantage.

A restrained creature can attempt to free itself at the end of its turn by making a Strength saving throw.

The tree functions as full cover but deals 2d6 cold damage at the start of your turn to any creature within its range. The tree lasts for 1 minute or until your concentration is broken.
